In order to live independently, adults have to have a good grasp of their financial literacy, and talking about money isn't always easy.
At Abilities Unlimited, we engage with our clients by putting together Sonic Wednesdays. On Sonic Wednesdays, our clients order food on Tuesdays, and on Wednesdays, when the food arrives, our clients buy what they want.
“It's like a national holiday,” said Alesia, our ADDT Director.
On Sonic Wednesdays, we add tax and tips to the orders so our clients know how much money to bring with them. Our clients learn how to look at a menu and prices and how to add taxes to what they want.
The environment we promote at Abilities helps our clients learn and strengthen skills. Our team works in creative ways to have a fun and safe place to ensure our clients learn the best way possible to apply.
Sonic Wednesday is part of the Abilities Unlimited Adult Development Programs. Our day activity programs are licensed, partially funded, and monitored by the State of Arkansas. The purpose of the programs is to assist adults with developmental disabilities to learn and become more independent. Program participants are encouraged to try new activities, make new friends, and broaden their horizons.
